Washington D.C. Day 3 & 4

Sunday we had a nice easy day. Went to church, Carter found a girl friend in nursery - apparently they were arm in arm and the girl said "bye Carter" when we picked him up, she was a bit older than him too. Carter got a good nap that day since we weren't running around places. He needed one! My cousin and his girl friend and some of my aunt's friends came over for dinner that night. Carter became good friends with my cousin and his girl friend. He was especially excited to see their dogs. The dogs weren't as excited to see him and only one would get close enough to him for a picture. Carter was very excited. This is a picture on our Monday morning trip down to D.C. on the metro. Carter made many friends our week on the metro. For those who have been on it before you know what a tough crowd it is too, not usually the smiling and happy bunch, more the leave me alone I'm a business person type. We went through the Air & Space museum that's down on the mall. There were a lot of neat things. Carter slept for a little while in his stroller and then helped push it around the museum. Here's a picture of me and Carter checking out what Amelia Earhart's plane looked like. This is the cool water fall between the two main art museum's (by the reflecting pyramids I had a picture of on Saturday) that "falls" down into the basement. Carter was intrigued by it. I love that you can just walk into the zoo! How many zoos can you do that at?! Carter loved the zoo! He just loves animals! Most of them were "Ace" or "woof-woof" but some got "duck" (his only other animal name he knows). Here's Carter checking out the elephant. The elephant was in a playful mode and we watched him a few times during our afternoon there. A panda. How cool is that?! We both decided it was the first time we've ever seen a panda in person. Both the panda's were busy eating. It was amazing to watch how they break apart that bamboo. Carter really liked the small mammal house. I think because the windows were down lower and most the animals moved a lot so he could find them easily. He really liked the different kinds of shrews we kept seeing for some reason. They're kind of funny looking creatures I think but apparently Carter really liked them. He would get really excited when they were right close to the window. He'd point at them and say his "this" which is what he always does when he's asking for or about something. One of the orangutans. Was sitting right up by the glass. Carter had fun watching and laughing at him for a while. We shortly discovered this guy must not have been feeling well because he was busy throwing up and then eating what had just come up again. Yuck! The lion shared some great vocalizations with us while we were there. Carter got really excited about that. Happy little family! I think Carter was asleep at this point. Back watching the elephant play with the tire. We sat there for 10-15 minutes watching him. Carter really enjoyed it and kept point and saying "this" and laughing. Look closely in this picture. We found some un-caged animals in the zoo. There was a baby off to the left on the other side of the road. We were surprised how close they let us get and for how long the let us sit and watch them before they ran off. I can't remember ever seeing flamingos before with such bright colors. We had a very fun day and the weather was very nice too. Since it was so nice Lance decided we would take a long walk and get on another metro stop. It was a very Very VERY long walk. My legs were so tired that night!

Wow Carter is so big and handsome! I really like your new family picture. Do you have family in D.C. or was it just a vacation? I love the museums there!
