We're thinking he'll be right handed

So we've noticed that Carter already seems to favor reaching for things with his right hand. Most of the time he reaches up with both hands to grab things but if it's just one hand, it's usually the right. Today he was in his swing and I heard the noise indicating that somebody was holding the "flying fish" still so they couldn't rotate. I looked over and this is what I saw. Needless to say we've taken the dinosaur off of the mobile now that he can reach it so he doesn't break the motor or something. :) That would not be good considering we borrowed it from a very nice friend and the fact that they'll be needing it back in a few months for their new little one.

A not so pleasant first

So this weekend hasn't been fun to say the least. Saturday morning Carter projectile puked all over me and the carpet. It just got better from there. Lance was at a scout camp and got back later that afternoon, only to find out his sore throat he'd had before he left was feeling tons worse and has continued to feel worse everyday. We think he may have strep throat but he has a doctors appointment later today. So Carter has never had projectile spit-up before so it freaked me out a little. He did not think it was too fun either with junk pouring out his mouth and nose. I felt so bad for him and he was so mad afterwards. After a while I got him settled and he fell asleep. However he did it again later that afternoon. So Saturday was spent with him puking twice and mostly sleeping. He was able to keep some food down but he didn't eat a ton like he usually does. He was fine the rest of the night, other than waking up every 2-4 hours through the night wanting to eat but I figured maybe he was feeling better and of course he'd feel hungry after puking during the day. Sunday morning I had really wanted to go to church since I hadn't been able to go to our ward in a long time between being out of town and working every other week. Carter had been fine through the night and was acting like his normal happy self so I decided I would go at least for the first hour. I didn't want to leave him home with Lance since Lance was feeling terrible and I didn't want him giving whatever he had to Carter, so I loaded Carter up, got the car warming up, and right as I was picking up his carseat I heard the dreaded noise and he started crying. So it wasn't projectile like the day before but sure enough he had spit-up coming out his nose and everything again. So much for my plan. So yesterday started all over again with him puking (3 times during the day) and then trying to settle him down after and him finally falling asleep. Sometimes he would eat and keep it down, others not so much. One of the times he even managed to puke on Ace a little, who was sleeping below the spot where Carter and I were sitting. Poor dog didn't know what hit him and we discovered later Carter got him better than we had thought because Ace had dry crusty all down his neck. Nice! So last night he went down to bed for good at 11pm and didn't wake up until after 6, a little better than the night before. He's been up out of bed since 9 and eating a couple times and so far so good. However, I'm not going to be able to go to work tonight since Lance is feeling stinky sick and we're still trying to keep Carter away from him as much as possible so that he doesn't catch what Lance has too. Hopefully the rest of the day goes well for Carter and that Lance gets better soon. Our poor little guy has had a rough past few weekends. Last weekend, to make the story short, he wouldn't go down well for Lance all weekend while I was working (had a case of a momma's boy or something) and cried a lot for his poor daddy. By Sunday he had the cutest (but sad) little hoarse voice. Still haven' figured out what his deal was last weekend.

Sleeping Boy

Carter tends to fall asleep in the funniest poses. I've been trying to take pictures of them however most of the pictures don't turn out that well because I turn the flash off so it doesn't wake him up but you can get the general idea. The thinker. When he falls asleep in his bed for the night he usually always has his hands like this or straight out to the side. Carter eats and chews on his burp cloths and blankets all the time. He loves his thumb! And his fingers! And apparently even his toy rings.

Carter's 4 Month Stats

Our boy had his 4 month doctors appointment earlier in the week (he was actually ~4 1/2 months) and turns out he's still right in the middle "average." Although Lance's mom said he is above average in her book. :) Carter weighed in at 15lbs 5oz, length of 24 3/4 inches and a head circumference of 16.5 inches. All put him right around the 50th percentile. He did better right after his shots this time and his reaction to them seemed to be exactly opposite of last time. He was done screaming by the time we had his clothes back on him and was a little whinny the rest of the day but later that night when he was just screaming and screaming for Lance when I was at work. He'd had tylenol, wouldn't eat, had a clean diaper, so Lance ended up driving around for half an hour to put him to sleep and then he slept through the night. At two months he screamed the whole way until right before we got home, ended up having a little bit of a temperature but was just fine and happy the rest of the day. What a funny boy! It will be interesting to see his reaction at 6 months. We love his faces!!

Gets me every time

Every time Carter grows out of something and I put it away it brings a little tear (sometimes a lot of tears depending on the day, I blame it on the hormones) to my eyes. This is one of the latest things he has out grown. His oh so cute brown corduroy overalls from Old Navy that we splurged on before he was born. I debated about buying them in a couple of sizes but due to a tight wallet I didn't and now I regret it because I love them so much and of course when I went back later, they were all gone. Lance informed me the other day he could barely button them up, so it was time to retire them. I realized I wasn't sure if I had any/many pictures of him in them so I wanted to take some last time pictures in them. During the photo shoot one of the snaps popped open, a sign that I can't ignore that they are indeed too small. So off to the plastic bin container of outgrown clothes that is currently residing under his crib.

Our very own smarty pants

Lance finished his first semester back at school and he did AWESOME, in my un-biased opinion! He worked so hard all semester and it showed in the end. Lance earned better grades than he ever has. Way to go smarty pants! We're proud of you!

Four Months

Our Big Boy Carter is Four Months old. The pictures were taken yesterday but I didn't get a chance to post them until today. Here's his milestones over the past month:
  • According to our scale here at home Carter is getting close to 15lbs
  • He's starting to out grow some of his 3 month cloths
  • Rolled over from his tummy to his back a handful of times
  • Continues to smile and laugh and giggle, especially at mom and dad
  • Still has blue blue eyes and long eyelashes that curl up
  • Hair is lighter with some blond and auburn hughes in it
  • Goes to bed between 8-9 most of the time and wakes up about 8 hours later at 4 or 5, eats and usually goes back to bed for a few more hours
  • Not really set on his naps yet. Some days he does great and takes a couple long ones, other days he will only take short little naps
  • He has started fighting going to sleep and gets himself so sleepy and work-up at nights, not a fun time of the day
  • Travels great in the car - sleeps pretty much the whole time, the farthest we've traveled so far is only 4 hours
  • Can really tell he "knows" his hands. He is great at grabbing on to his toys (or whatever else he gets his hands on) and grips really tight. He knows which hand has the toy in it and brings it up to his mouth to eat it.
  • Loves watching lights, people walk by, and follows our dog Ace when he's walking around
  • Continues to spit up, on us, on himself, usually at random time
  • Enjoys rolling his tongue, always sticking it out on the right side of his mouth
  • Gets so excited when he's happy and kicks his legs, jumps, and squirms all around
We love our boy! I get a little teary some nights when I think about how big he's gotten in such a little time. I want him to stay little longer! Carter was getting a little sleepy when we tried to take pictures in the evening, so we had to take some more the next morning.
